01/04 Monday: Remembering Politico C.B. Forgotston, Louisiana Budget Chaos, and Stock Market Drop

HOUR ONE: 

Elliott Stonecipher

Dayne Sherman

Elliott Stonecipher is a Louisiana pollster.  He discusses the death and legacy of C. B. Forgotston with Dayne Sherman.  Dayne Sherman is a Louisiana author, blogger, and librarian.  Forgotston died at age 70 yesterday of a self-inflicted gun shot.  

Stonecipher says Forgotston had "real courage" and that "the lesson here is all people are not replaceable."  Sherman says, "No one knew what he knew, and no one was less bothered by how politicians didn't like what he did." 

HOUR TWO: 

Ron Faucheux

Ron Faucheux is a lawyer, non-fiction author, and political consultant.  Faucheux is also a former Louisiana State Representative for District 100.  He comments on the chaos surrounding the Louisiana budget and discusses his recent article, Cleaning up swamp-like Louisiana budget key to Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards' success.  

Fred Dent III 

Fred Dent is in his 29th year in the financial planning and investment business.  He is a frequent speaker and commentator on financial topics.  After his return to Baton Rouge from his work at a major Wall Street firm, Fred was the resident financial analyst on CBS affiliate, WAFB-TV, with his popular and informative segment, “Dollars and Dent.”  A graduate of Louisiana State University, Fred is an active participant in several local community organizations and is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter.  He discusses the drop in the stock market today.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Melissa Matey joins guest host Neal Gladner to talk about New Year's Eve safety and drinking and driving. Matey discusses drunk driving statistics and getting a safe ride home. DUI arrests are down 18% in Baton Rouge since Uber started. 

Stephanie Riegel 

Editor of the Baton Rouge Business Report Stephanie Riegel chats with Neal about business and politics of 2015 and what's in store for next year. Riegel says the biggest story of 2015 was the election of John Bel Edwards as governor of Louisiana. She says we were too busy with politics to realize the huge drop on oil prices.

Service Coordination Hydrologist with the National Weather Service Jeff Graschel talks with Neal about the flooding of the Mississippi River and projects how long it will take for the flooding to reach Louisiana and the impact it will have. 

Ricky Boyett

Chief of Public Affairs with the Army Corp of Engineers in New Orleans Ricky Boyett joins the show to talk about the flooding of the Mississippi River. He discusses possibly opening the Bonnet Carre Spillway for the first time since 2011. 

Nancy Malone

Region Public Affairs Director of the American Red Cross in Louisiana Nancy Malone discusses flood preparations in the state with Neal.  

Jay Ducote

Louisiana Chef Jay Ducote chats with Neal about New Year's day meal traditions and how to prepare them.

Countercultural icon, he co-founded the raunchy, avant-garde rock band The Fugs and was instrumental in the Youth International Party — commonly called the Yippies. Ed Sanders is also the author of "The Family" about the killing of Sharon Tate, orchestrated by Charles Manson.

Alan Risher was QB for the USFL Arizona Wranglers, and later an NFL QB for the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A graduate of LSU, Risher talks with Jim about the Texas Bowl and his predictions for who'll win.

CEO and Founder of the Baton Rouge AIDS Society Rev. A.J. Johnson joins Jim to discuss the growth of AIDS in Louisiana. Johnson says 33% of people who find out they have HIV receive an AIDS diagnosis shortly after.  Baton Rouge in number one in the country for it's AIDS rate.

Jim Mayer

Owner and President of Mayer Co. Clothiers in Baton Rouge joins Jim in studio to talk about the health system in Louisiana.  Mayer comments on what Governor Bobby Jindal has done for the health care system and how difficult it will be to improve it when John Bel Edwards takes office in two weeks.
