04/21 Thursday: Mark Ballard, The Death of Prince, John Wirt, Jim Brown

Hour 1:

Mark Ballard

The Advocate's Mark Ballard joins Jim to talk about what's going on during the regular session. Ballard discusses legislation on abortion, TOPS, Ban the Box, the motorcycle helmet law, and other bills. 

John Wirt

Music Critic John Wirt visits the studio to talk about the death of Prince. Wirt highlights Prince's great career and remembers Prince's performance at the 2014 Essence Festival. Wirt says Prince was struggling with flu-like symptoms in the last week. 

Prince was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004 and was a Jehovah's Witness.

Jim Brown

Jim Brown

Former Secretary of State and Insurance Commissioner Jim Brown joins the show in studio. Brown discusses Andrew Jackson being replaced on the front of the 20 dollar bill. He also believes the monument in Jackson Square should not be removed. Brown also comments on the upcoming presidential election. 

04/20 Wednesday: Maxine Crump, US Army War College, 6th Anniversary of Deep Water Horizon Explosion, Garret Graves, Gus Weill

Maxine Crump

Journalist Maxine Crump joins Jim to talk about an article written about her in the New York Times. Crump said she was contacted by Georgetown University about her family members that were enslaved by a Catholic church in Louisiana. The article is "Georgetown Confronts a Haunting Sale of Slaves" by Rachel Swarns. 

Army War College

Col. Lance Clark discusses the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Penn. Clark talks about enrollment and what the university has to offer. He says the War College comes to Louisiana to encourage students to talk about national security. 

Hour 2: 

Garret Graves

Congressman Garret Graves joins Jim to talk about the 6th anniversary of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. He also discusses coastline erosion, the rising sea level, and coastline restoration.  

Gus Weill

Political Consultant Gus Weill joins Jim to discuss the upcoming presidential election. He talks about the New York primary election and the victories of Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. 

04/19 Tuesday: Stephen Handwerk, Layne McDaniel, Jason Hebert

Stephen Handwerk

Stephen is on the show discussing the premiere of Gov. John Bel Edwards' new radio show which airs on Louisiana Radio Network every third Wednesday of the month.  He also talks about the increase of minimum wage.

 

Layne McDaniel

McDaniel joins Jim to discuss the Dancing for Big Buddy event that supports the programmatic efforts of the Big Buddy Program. The event is on April 23, 2016, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on LSU’s campus, the birth site of the Big Buddy Program.

Jason Hebert

Political consultant, Jason Hebert, talks to Jim about the presidential candidates as ballots were caste in New York today. He gives his opinions on who he feels will be good a good president and vice president.

04/18 Monday: More Universities in Louisiana, Smiley Anders and Trey Ourso

Dean Albert Samuels

Dr. Albert Samuels is now Dean Samuels.  He is on the show to talk with Jim about why he feels Louisiana needs more universities.  Samuels also updates us on the death of the two former Southern University students.

Smiley Anders

Smiley Anders is on the show with Jim to discuss the proposition of admitting his hometown, Natchez, MS to Louisiana.  Anders tells Jim about what he feels about the succession of the city.

HOUR TWO

Trey Ourso

Trey Ourso was recognized with the Excellence Award last week as the 2015 Campaign Strategist of the Year for his work with Gumbo PAC during the Louisiana governor’s race.  Ourso founded Gumbo PAC and served as the PAC’s chief strategist. Ourso discusses what its like to be recognized for this award among other topics.

American actor, voice actor, comedian, producer, director, writer, singer and activist Kelsey Grammer, is on the show to discuss his movie that will debut in the International Film Festival, "Breaking the Bank." Grammer talks about his personal life, his career, his childhood and how he became so successful.

Randy Hayden

Randy Hayden is in favor of the non-smoking ordinance in Baton Rouge.  The political consultant comes on the show with Jim to shine light on the pros and cons of making Baton Rouge a non-smoking city. 

Nancy Finley

Nancy Finley, talks about growing up under her "uncle" Charley Finley while the formation of Oakland Athletics began to emerge and take shape.  Finley gives Jim the inside scoop on the team and the men in her family who created it. 

HOUR TWO

Lamar White, Jr.

Investigative journalist and blogger, White, comes on the show to discuss the phishing scam with the Lt. Governor, new stories developing on his blog, and his new venture Imagine Louisiana Communications.  This is a company he founded in order to provide research and communication services to candidates, legislators, elected officials, government agencies, municipalities, non-profit organizations, and grassroots activists.

Cody Louviere comes from King Crow Studios to talk about the video gaming industry and the new video game, Quest of Souls.  The game he has created has been targeting at audiences ages 18-42.  Hear about some of the characters and who inspired them.
