8/27 Thursday: Gubernatorial Election, Gubernatorial Q&A, Remembering Hurricane Katrina, LBJ, and Insurance Commissioner Jim Donnelon

HOUR ONE: 

Bob Mann

Robert Mann is a journalist and political historian and currently holds the Manship Chair in Journalism at the Manship School of Mass Communication at LSU.  He is also the author of several books including, Daisy Petals and Mushroom Clouds: LBJ, Barry Goldwater and the Ad that Changed American Politics.  Mann will discuss the Gubernatorial election and remember the legacy of LBJ on the 107th Birthday of the former US President.  He will also remember Hurricane Katrina as this week marks the 10th anniversary since the storm.  

HOUR TWO: 

Jim Donelon

Prior to becoming Insurance Commissioner, Jim Donelon served as Chief Deputy Commissioner and Executive Counsel of the Louisiana Department of Insurance.  Donelon shares his plan for reelection and also remember Hurricane Katrina and its impact on Louisiana.

David Diamond

David Diamond is the pastor of Redeeming Word of Life.  He discusses with Justice of the Peace Moses Evans recent news involving the Ashley Madison scandal, same sex marriage, and the Louisiana Gubernatorial election.  The two also heatedly debate the use of the 'N word' by Elbert Guillory.

Andrea Gabor

Andrea Gabor is the Bloomberg Professor of Business Journalism at Baruch’s Weissman School of Arts and Sciences.  She comments on her article The Myth of the New Orleans Makeover.

Fred Dent III

Fred Dent III is celebrating his 28th year in the financial planning and investment business. He started Dent Asset Management in 1997.  He comments on the precipitous drop in the Industrial Dow Jones.  

Colonel Rob Maness

Col. Rob Maness is running for U.S. Senate.  He speaks on the Gubernatorial election that is quickly approaching. 

HOUR TWO: 

Joe Domanick

Joe Domanick is an award-winning investigative journalist and author.  Currently, Domanick is Associate Director of the Center on Media, Crime and Justice (CMCJ) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, West Coast editor of The CrimeReport.org and editor and host of CMCJ's Juvenile Justice New Network forum.  He shares his book Blue: The LAPD and the Battle to Redeem American Policing.

Steve Monaghan was first elected president of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers in 2003. In November of 2014, he was elected to his fifth term in office.  He comments on David Vitter's call for a teacher pay hike.

Steve Cochran is the Director of the Mississippi River Delta Restoration Program.  Cochran discusses his recent article in The Advocate: Saving Louisiana’s coast is even more urgent after the hurricanes of the past.  Cochran warns that by 2100, Louisiana wetlands will be gone if they keep eroding at their current rate.  

Elbert Guillory

Senator Elbert Guillory returns again today to further discuss his controversial TV spot as he continues on his quest for the Lieutenant Governor's position. 

GUBERNatorial Q&A

According to the latests labor statistics, Louisiana's unemployment rate of 6.4% is tied for the nation's sixth-highest jobless rate.  As governor, what specific programs would you propose to get more people working? The candidates answer in the following order: John Bel Edwards, Jay Dardenne, and Scott Angelle.  David Vitter was also invited to respond, but did not.
