Bill Frey is an internationally recognized demographer specializes in issues involving urban populations, migration, immigration, race, aging, political demographics, and the U.S. Census. He is also a research professor in population studies at the University of Michigan.  He shares his latest book Diversity Explosion

Troy Hebert

Former Senator Troy Hebert was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to serve as Commissioner of the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control in November of 2010.  Hebert's vehicle was stolen from his home Sunday night and returned Tuesday by the fire department after an attempt was made to set the car on fire.  

HOUR TWO:

Elbert Guillory 

Senator Elbert Guillory is running for Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana.  He used the N word in a TV spot.  Though controversial, Guillory defends his TV spot asserting that the word is a part of history of which people need to be reminded.

John Folse

John Folse is a Louisiana Chef and founder of Lafitte’s Landing Restaurant.  Folse shares news of his upcoming book Can You Bake It: The Dirt On Vegetables.   

Cary Deaton 

Cary Deaton is a New Orleans Attorney.  He just announced his candidacy for the upcoming Gubernatorial race.  Deaton was a Democratic candidate in the 2011 Governor's election.  Deaton says that John Bel Edwards was meant to be a "spoiler" for his election.

Former Yankees pitcher Fritz Peterson chats with us about his books, Yankees career and his famous wife swap with fellow Yankees pitcher Mike Kekich.  Peterson says he always idolized the Yankees when he was younger. 

Peterson is a left handed pitcher. He never got a World Series. 

Peterson met his wife when Kekich was traded to the Yankees. He said the families were very close. He decided within a 45 minute period, Kekich's current wife Susanne, was the one for him. Susanne and Fritz are still together after 42 years. 

Fritz is a two time survivor of prostate cancer.

E. Eric Guirard visits the studio to chat about his new country song "Trouble, Time and Money." Guirard has also been a rapper. He will be releasing a new album soon which will be a mix of country and reggae.

Dr. Susan Edelman discusses her new book, Be Your Own Brand of Sexy. She says the difference between men and women is very significant. Edelman says the sexual revolution was a good thing for women. She advises women to remember they have the freedom to choose for themselves.

Edelman attended LSU for undergrad and medical school and is a native of Baton Rouge.

Former Southern University chancellor Jim Llorens joins the conversation to discuss a new Catholic school, Cristo Rey Baton Rouge High School,  to be built at the former site of the old Redemptorist High School. Cristo Rey is a Catholic, college prep school. The school is exclusively for students not as privileged as other and kids work one day a week as part of their education. They'll start out with 9th grade and add one grade per school year.  

Llorens says Cristo Rey will open in August 2016. 

E. Eric Guirard

Lawyer turned country singer E. Eric Guirard comes back in the second hour to continue talking about his upcoming album. Guirard expects his album to come out sometime in November.  He says his lyrics come from true life experiences.

Author Chris Warner discusses his new book in the works about the life and death of Scott Rogers. Warner explains the first time he met Scott and says he was a likable person.  

Warner says everything that came out about Rogers after the murder-suicide was true. He says Rogers was able to cover up his part in England and make a new life in Baton Rouge. 

 

Governor's Q & A

What's your position on Governor Jindal's decision to cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood clinics and as governor is there any legislation you would push for to limit abortions in Louisiana?

Scott Angelle says this is a topic close to his heart because he is one of 9 children and has 5 of his own. He says he is pro-life and believes everyone pro-life should also be pro-adoption.

Jay Dardenne believes women's healthcare is very important. He says Louisiana does not need to be funding programs, like Planned Parenthood, which show so little regard for human life.

John Bel Edwards says he is pro-life and wants to ensure women have easy access to healthcare. He says he supports cutting Medicaid but wants to provide another option. 

David Vitter did not answer.

"I have no doubt Donald Trump is not going to get to the White House, expect as a tourist." 

Page says voters don't usually get engaged until after Labor Day. He says Bernie Sanders attacks people because he articulates issues well and emphasizes the government needs to fix problems. Page says Sanders stimulates his audience.

Voice of Louisiana Tech for the past 41 years Dave Nitz discusses his career as a baseball announcer in Sioux City and Geno Smith getting punched in the face for owing a debt. The most memorable football game Nitz called was one when Tech played Alabama. He says Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame.

Investigative reporter Dan Moldea, talks with us about his books of the death of Jimmy Hoffa. Moldea's first book was The Hoffa Wars: Teamsters, Rebels, Politicians and the Mob. Jimmy Hoffa disappeared on July 30, 1975. Moldea claims to know what actually happened.  He's been investigating the murder for the past 30 years. 

Moldea also investigated Louisiana Congressman Bob Livingston, as well as, Senator David Vitter.  He says the D.C. Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, did actually kill herself.
