Retired Marine Corps Major General Ron Richard

Major General Ron Richard joins the show to discuss the 240th anniversary of the Marine Corps. Richard says everyone should provide some service to instill in them a sense of love and patriotism and give back to their country.

Richard says Louisiana has the golden opportunity with a new governor coming into office to address young veterans coming back after years of war. He believes ROTC should be voluntary.

Phillip Manuel

Louisiana Jazz singer Phillip Manuel talks with Jim about the life and death of Allen Toussaint. Toussaint passed away today in Madrid, Spain after a concert due to a heart attack. Manuel discusses being exposed to Toussaint's music at an early age.

Raymond Strother

Political Consultant Raymond Strother talks about the presidential election. He says the Republican debates haven't been as fair as they should be. Strother comments on the gubernatorial election. He listens to David Vitter and John Bel Edwards address Vitter's prostitution scandal and believes Vitter is trying to get the evangelical vote back. Strother discusses the use of private investigators during an election.

HOUR ONE:

Sybil Morial

Sybil Haydel Morial is a native of New Orleans and witness to the Civil Rights Era "from Jim Crow to Political Empowerment." She attended Boston University, where she met Martin Luther King Jr, her fellow student. Morial became the first African-American to teach in the Newton, Massachusetts, public-school system. Upon returning to New Orleans, Sybil participated in some of the first tests for integration attempting to enroll at both Tulane and Loyola. In 1962, she was the lone plaintiff in a successful challenge to a statute prohibiting public-school teachers from being involved in any organization advocating civil rights. She also formed the Louisiana League of Good Government to help African-American citizens register to vote.

She shares her book Witness to Change: From Jim Crow to Political Empowerment.

Tyler Bridges

Tyler Bridges is a freelance journalist based in New Orleans and Lima, Peru, who was twice a member of Pulitzer Prize-winning teams. He is a former reporter for The Miami Herald and The Times-Picayune and author of Bad Bet on the Bayou: The Rise of Gambling in Louisiana and the Fall of Governor Edwin Edwards and The Rise of David Duke. He comments on the upcoming Gubernatorial election in less than two weeks.

Jeffrey Sadow

Dr. Jeff Sadow is an Associate Professor of History and Political Science at LSU in Shreveport. He is also a columnist for The Advocate. He discusses his article 'John Bel Edwards not holding to honor code with litany of deceit during campaign' published in The Advocate yesterday.

Scotlandville native Dr. James C. Cook, Jr. joins the conversation to discuss the 50-year milestone for African-American students who desegregated Catholic high schools in the Baton Rouge area. Cook shares his stories of what life was like being one of a few African-American students at Catholic High.

Southern University's Law Center is commemorating the milestone on November 13th. Southern University Interim Chancellor John Pierre discusses why the school thought it was so important to recognize the importance of those individuals who first attended the Catholic high schools.

Hour 2:

Stephen Handwerk

Executive Director of the Louisiana Democratic Party Stephen Handwerk joins Jim in studio to talk about Republican Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne endorsing Democrat John Bel Edwards for Governor. Handwerk notes the important reasons why Dardenne chose to cross party lines to support Edwards rather than Republican David Vitter.

Handwerk says it's not about right vs. left but about right vs. wrong.
